Walking trucks. Remember them?

Robotic drones and piloted vehicles without wheels. Their motion based on that of insects, or four-legged animals.

For a while – back in the late 1990s and early 2000s – they were all the rage. Touted as the next big thing, in all-terrain vehicles.

They featured in the movies.  Most notably, the walking loader Ellen Ripley used, to take out the Queen in “Aliens.”  Less notably, the giant Tarantula Doctor Loveless used to terrorize the box office, in “Wild Wild West.”

They’ve made something of a comeback in recent steam punk fiction. Iron horses. Literally.

But, in the real world, nothing.

Walking trucks, anyone?

Peace.
