Not exactly. More of an early warning.

Word’s come to me – by way of C. Hope Clark’s excellent Funds for Writers newsletter – of an interesting little writing challenge.

The Premise:
Your protagonist is caught in a life-or-death situation. His / her only hope of survival lies with a cellphone – which malfunctions, at a critical moment.

Your Mission (Should you choose to accept it):
To expand on this theme, to the tune of 1,500 words, or less.
The emphasis should be on building and maintaining suspense.

Deadline is Sept. 15, 2010. First prize $100, plus publication of your story in The Verb. There is no entry fee.

Full submission guidelines are available here:

Intense Suspense Writing Contest

And, if you’ve not yet subscribed to C. Hope Clark’s Funds for Writers newsletter, you can do so here:

Good luck, and good writing.

I’m out of here.
