The brutal rape and murder of a 23-year old medical student?

Or the beheading of a domestic worker, who was a 17-year old female minor, at the time of her alleged crime?

Tighter restrictions, on firearms.

Improved policing, and a societal shift, in views on women.

Greater protection for non-indigenous workers.

If it takes events like this to force us into even thinking about change – about “doing the right thing” (whatever that might involve) – what does this say about us, as the dominant species on this planet?

It’s 2013.

We’ve held that position, for thousands of years.

Isn’t it about time we earned it?
